Burning Dresses

Deep in the thicket of a witches forest eight performers confront societal bodies of power.

Based on extensive research into feminist literature, sharing of personal stories and interviews with women in leading positions a collage of images and narratives developed. Exaggerated and poetic but always personal the piece questions prevailing power structures and searches for alternatives.

Dance artist and theatre maker Elisabeth Hofmann has, in collaboration with students of the Physical Theatre department at Folkwang University of Arts, created the stage piece BURNING DRESSES. Together with the eight students Hofmann worked within the themes power and rebellion, the focus of the devising process being on the physical confrontation with and the individual approach to the themes.
